About Our Team And Work History

CPI is the creation of Drs. Flanagan, Ortiz, and Alfonso whose extensive research has led to groundbreaking work in the areas of assessment, evaluation, and intervention, including culturally and linguistically diverse learners. The individual and collective work of Drs. Flanagan, Ortiz, and Alfonso have resulted in hundreds of publications, books, and assessments that have earned numerous distinctions. They have now teamed together to bring this expert knowledge to professionals across the country through training and consultation services.
Their goal is to elevate professionals in the field (through these evidence-based and innovative practices) to be prepared and confident as they gain new knowledge to develop their own expertise.

Dawn P Flanagan

Dr. Dawn P. Flanagan is professor of Psychology and Director of the School Psychology training programs at St. John's University in Queens, NY. She is also clinical assistant professor at Yale Child Study Center, Yale University School of Medicine. She teaches in the areas of intellectual assessment, psychoeducational assessment, learning disability, and professional issues in school psychology.

Dr. Ortiz is Professor of Psychology at St. John's University, New York. He holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Southern California and a credential in school psychology with postdoctoral training in Bilingual School Psychology from San Diego State University. He has served as Visiting Professor and Research Fellow at Nagoya University, Japan, as Vice President for Professional Affairs of APA
Vincent C. Alfonso

Vincent C. Alfonso, Ph.D., is Professor in the School of Education at Gonzaga University. Most recently he served as Interim Dean of the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. He is past president of Division 16 (School Psychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA).

Dr. Kristin Makena has been an educational psychologist for over 15 years and has worked as a School Psychologist, Administrator, Professor, Researcher, and business owner. Dr. Makena received her Ph.D. is in integrated mental health where she gained a wealth of experience in the health and wellness field.
